You may be asked by your doctor to maintain a certain head position if a gas bubble was placed in your eye. You will have a follow-up appointment the day after your procedure and you should arrange for someone to drive you to that appointment. You should not drive, operate machinery, or make important decisions for 24 hours after the surgery to allow the effects of these medications to wear off. You may feel some residual effect of the sedative medications for a few hours. This is required by Georgia law, even if you feel like you are able to walk. You will be escorted to your car in a wheelchair after your surgery. A brief physical examination is required and must be performed by your doctor no more than 30 days before your surgery. Your primary care doctor will advise you regarding the exact plan you should follow. These doctors have been providing ophthalmic anesthesia and working with us for over 25 years. The day before your surgery, it is important to not eat or drink anything after midnight. Our team of highly qualified nurses will contact you prior to the day of your surgery to explain what to expect, what time to arrive, and how you should take any medications the morning of your surgery.Ī highly experienced MD anesthesiologist is always present in the surgery center and is either directly providing or immediately supervising your anesthesia care. While in the operating room, you will be monitored closely by one of the experienced anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists, and will receive medication to keep you relaxed during the procedure. You will be asked to change your shirt and wear a hospital gown, but do not have to disrobe completely. We suggest you wear something loose-fitting and comfortable, and leave jewelry items at home. On the day of your procedure, you will be welcomed by Georgia Retina’s specially-trained staff, who already have your chart and know your history - reducing repetitive questions to answer and duplicate forms to fill out. Our cutting-edge center provides a warm and personalized setting for your procedure and is also less expensive than a traditional hospital outpatient department. Only Georgia Retina doctors and patients have access to our ASC, which gives our patients a more convenient experience.
